You have been a wonderful friend The number of people applying for asylum across France has dropped dramatically this summer, as the government moves to rein in migration.
The French government has tightened border controls and is looking to introduce a cap on the number of jobs EU citizens can take.
But an analysis using official government statistics reveals that nearly a million people applied for asylum in France this summer, a drop from an all-time high of around 12,000 in July.
Last year the French government announced a cap of 20,000 employment by EU citizens, while the maximum annual job count is 40,000.
But at the start of this year, France introduced a new system to assess migrants, introducing interviews, a health inspection and fingerprinting for most of the process.

Can you get amoxil over the counter at a pharmacy?' People went crazy."
The DEA decided problem was big enough to warrant increased oversight by an "equipment inspection board," as Congress called it in 1994, composed of a majority representatives from both the House and Senate.
The DEA is in charge of enforcing laws regarding the manufacture, importation and distribution of controlled substances; but it does not get to regulate what pharmacies do with the drugs they buy. When CVS began buying Amoxil over Cheapest place to buy retin a the counter, it had to obtain the DEA's OK.
In a statement, the DEA insisted its involvement didn't amount to lobbying, but said "the agency has the right to inspect a manufacturer or distributor's facility and equipment to ensure that appropriate control measures" are being put in place.
The DEA spokeswoman, Brooke Doxylamine brands australia Sammon, wouldn't elaborate on the inspection criteria agency used to determine CVS' compliance with the law. CVS said drug distributors are inspected whenever a pharmacy dispenses controlled substances. Under federal law, the company is responsible for maintaining facilities at every site.
"The fact remains that our Amoxil distribution center was inspected only because of a breach in the manufacturing control process," CVS spokesman Brian Nick said. "We have taken immediate action to terminate sales of this adulterated medicine."
The company added that its pharmacies across the country take "extraordinary measures to make sure pharmaceutical drugs do not get into the wrong hands" and are subject to frequent third-party audits.
"In the midst of a Order diflucan online uk national conversation about drugs that should not be prescribed by doctors, it's tragic that one pharmacy's error compromised the livelihoods of tens thousands patients," Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., who was a sponsor of the 1994 law, said in a statement.
But a former DEA lawyer who defended the enforcement of Controlled Substances Act (CSA) in a lawsuit against the DEA, said its enforcement pharmacy online australia coupon code policy is ambiguous and that it important the agency be able to inspect drug manufacturers. This is particularly important in cases where the drugs question are being used illegally, the attorney said.
"We have a very long history of the DEA looking after industry," said Roger McShane, who worked as a lawyer for the DEA and as deputy chief counsel for the National Commission on Forensic Science, which is part of the National Academy Sciences. "As drug companies go about their business, they create problems — but we still have a problem with drugs being prescribed to the public."
Even so, McShane said, the policy is not perfect. He cited a case prosecuted last year in which the DEA didn't follow up on a complaint about improper prescribing of oxycodone.
The DEA declined to provide detailed data on how often the agency inspects manufacturers, but it provided the information for Amoxil because its case came to it through the agency's inspector general, a division set up in the late 1990s to investigate complaints against the agency.
"It is often a difficult regulatory task to determine how many medical professionals have broken the law with regard to controlled substances and how many companies are in compliance with their FASDA regulations," the inspector general's report, which remains unavailable on the agency's website, said in part.
The inspector general's report says DEA has inspected drug wholesalers at least three times since 2004 for "failing to comply with the FASDA laws and regulations," but doesn't directly lay out any cases where that happened.
Amoxil, like some other powerful pain medications, is an abbreviation for acetylcodone, a class of drugs.
